A group of us met to talk about what we might expect from a book group with a general outlook. Some of us had, in the past, been members of reading groups and some not. Whilst we came up with a format, nothing is set in stone and we would expect the group to change and in time, for a distinct style to emerge in reading matter and discussions.

The basic idea is to meet monthly and discuss in depth a book the group had chosen in the previous month’s meeting. Discussions usually centre on plot, characterisation, any issues arising from the book and the effect the book has had on us as readers.

It was agreed that a variety of genres would be explored.

We agreed that everyone would read the same book as chosen. We also agreed an initial framework for choosing books and discussions. It was agreed we may wish to change this over time.

It is always interesting to meet new people and encounter new perspectives. It is also exciting to be part of a new group which is embarking on forging a new identity. There are a few spaces left.
