The daring rescue of steamship passengers off the Northumberland coast in 1838 which brought Grace international fame. Discover more about her bravery and short life living in the Brownsman and Longstone lighthouses. Grace became the ‘poster girl’ of the RNLI and was the first woman awarded their medal for gallantry. Dr James Taylor was a former specialist in Victorian paintings at Phillips Fine Art Auctioneers and a curator of paintings, drawing and prints at the National Maritime Museum.
