Filumena Marturano, written in 1946 and translated many times, - this one by Keith Waterhouse & Willis Hall - is a comedy of manners and formed the basis of the 1952 film Marriage Italian Style starring Sophia Loren. It gives the female lead (Felicity Kendal) full rein to show off her acting skills and tells the tale of an ex-lady of the night who has been living unmarried with a man for many years. When he decides to change his allegiances to a younger woman Filumena goes into action... Felicity Kendal is well equipped to give this frothy comedy its full potential.
