We are a lively group looking at climate change and the environment. This is probably the biggest issue facing us today and particularly for our children and grandchildren’s generations. We try to strike a balance between looking at becoming more familiar with the big issues and considering the practical steps we can all take. For example, recent sessions have covered recycling of plastics on a day-to-day basis and how to refill rather than replace where possible. We also discussed an overview of all the many new technologies for renewable energy generation and their likelihood, costs and timescales. Also, inviting a local school so we can listen to younger people’s view about what our generation can do.
Recent sessions have included a visit to the Sustainability Centre in East Meon and a talk by a u3a member on his thinking behind installing a heat pump and buying an electric car.
We will also be working with other organisations such as Petersfield u3a and Eco Rother Action to raise awareness on the key issues. Our group has also been invited to participate in Midhurst Town Council’s Sustainability Day in July.
The schedule is available from the Group Leader. New members welcome subject to capacity at individual sessions.
You must be a member of Midhurst u3a to participate in our groups
